Notable Acquisitions and M&A

2025 / 2026 – Pending take-private by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners (~US$55 billion)

On 29 September 2025, EA entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an investor consortium comprising Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners in an all-cash transaction valuing EA at an enterprise value of approximately US$55 billion. Stockholders are to receive US$210 per share, a 25% premium to the unaffected closing price of US$168.32 on 25 September 2025, with PIF rolling over its existing 9.9% stake. The transaction represents the largest all-cash sponsor take-private in history. EA stockholders approved the transaction on 22 December 2025 and US antitrust clearance has been obtained, but as of late July 2026 the transaction has not closed: review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) remains outstanding, the original closing deadline was extended, and the outside date now stands at 28 September 2026, backed by a US$1 billion reverse break fee. EA remains listed on the Nasdaq pending completion, and upon closing will remain headquartered in Redwood City, California under CEO Andrew Wilson.

2021 – Mobile and racing expansion (~US$4.7 billion combined)

EA completed three major acquisitions in 2021: Glu Mobile for approximately US$2.1 billion in enterprise value, expanding EA’s mobile free-to-play portfolio; Codemasters, the British racing specialist behind the F1 and DiRT franchises, for approximately US$1.2 billion; and Playdemic, the Manchester-based studio behind Golf Clash, from Warner Bros. Games for US$1.4 billion in cash. EA also acquired the sports studio Metalhead Software in the same year.

2017 – Respawn Entertainment (~US$455 million)

EA acquired Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the Titanfall franchise and subsequently Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series, in a transaction valued at approximately US$455 million. EA also announced an agreement to acquire TRACAB Technologies, an optical sports-tracking business, in February 2025.
