CATL acquired 100% of Canadian lithium developer Millennial Lithium Corp in an all-cash deal valued at approximately C$376.8 million (around US$302 million), announced in September 2021 at C$3.85 per share and completed in early 2022. The acquisition secured Millennial’s lithium projects in Argentina and formed part of CATL’s strategy to lock in upstream lithium supply.
2020 / 2021 – Strategic upstream resource stakes
Alongside the Millennial acquisition, CATL built a portfolio of minority stakes across the battery raw-material supply chain, including an approximately 8% stake in Argentina-focused Neo Lithium Corp, holdings in Australia’s Pilbara Minerals and Greenland-focused North American Nickel, and a 24% interest (via an affiliate) in the AVZ Minerals Manono lithium project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
